Your Monday Morning Roundup

Another pretty good weekend for the Phils. At least it was better than last weekend.

Two wins over the Reds, which began Friday night with a 4-2 win. After going down early, Jay Bruce gave the Phillies the lead with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. A Tucker Barnhart throwing error to third on a pickoff attempt against Scott Kingery gave the Phils another run later in the inning. Zach Eflin allowed both runs off four hits with six strikeouts in 6 1/3.

Saturday was all about Nick Pivetta. The right-hander allowed one run on a double play in the first, but was flawless the rest of the way. He went the distance, allowing that lone run off six hits with six strikeouts in a 4-1 win. Bruce drove in two runs in the bottom half of the first on a single, while J.T. Realmuto hit a homer, and Jean Segura brought in Bryce Harper on a triple.

Sunday was starting to look good for the Phils, as they took a 3-1 lead into the seventh. But with two outs, Aaron Nola couldn’t get a third and was yanked after allowing a single and a walk. The Reds would eventually score three runs to take a 4-3 lead and the eventual win. Nola went 6 2/3 innings with three runs off four hits and seven strikeouts. The Phils’ bats only got one hit off Cincinnati’s bullpen.

Bryce Harper also tried stealing home:

While the on-field product looked good, the injuries continued to pile up. Seranthony Dominguez might need Tommy John surgery, while Adam Haseley became the 15th Phillie to be put on the injured list. Fun times! Nick Williams was called up.

A new series begins tonight at 7:05 PM as Gabe Kapler, who can deliver some great quotes against Angelo Cataldi, and the Phils host the Diamondbacks on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Jerad Eickhoff takes the mound against Taylor Clarke.

On a somber note, former manager Frank Lucchesi passed away at the age of 92. He won the final game at Connie Mack Stadium and the first game at the Vet.

The Roundup:

The Sixers held another pre-draft workout Saturday in Camden. One of those guys was Tennessee’s Grant Williams.

Jimmy Butler was hanging out with a Sixers staffer, while the Cuz said the Sixers had dinner with Tobias Harris, even though he’s been in Indonesia.

New assistant Ime Udoka should be a solid hire for the Sixers.

Joe Douglas officially became the new general manager of the Jets on Friday. So who could replace him?

It sounds like Malcolm Jenkins won’t be a mandatory minicamp and wants a “hefty raise.”

DeMarcus Lawrence had a Carson Wentz take, but Lane Johnson had a response for him.

Despite trailing 2-0, the Union/Ilsinho scored three goals in 12 minutes (Ilsinho scored two of them) to give Philly a 3-2 win over the Red Bulls. Would you look at that? They travel to play D.C. United in the US Open Cup on Wednesday.

In other sports news, the Bruins defeated the Blues 5-1 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final to force a Game 7 Wednesday night.

David Ortiz was shot at a club in the Dominican Republic, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The Raptors took Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Warriors Friday night to take a 3-1 series lead. Game 5 is tonight in Toronto. Kevin Durant is questionable.

Madison Bumgarner was not a fan of Max Muncy’s home run celebration.

In the news, United Technologies and Raytheon are merging.

2 more horses have died at Santa Anita Park in California. 29 have died this year.
